Dodgers Rally Past White Sox with Clutch Homers and Bullpen Heroics

Bobby Miller, returning close to his roots for his second local start of the season, faced a challenging outing against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, though the Los Angeles Dodgers managed to pull through with a 4-3 victory in the Windy City. Miller’s performance, yielding three runs within a labor-intensive two innings, tested the Dodgers yet showcased the depth of their bullpen and the power of their lineup.

Raised in McHenry, Illinois, a mere hour’s journey to both of the city’s major league stadiums, Miller’s anticipation for a solid start was high. However, the result mirrored his earlier struggle on April 5 against the Cubs, where he couldnarily secured five outs while giving up five runs. Despite a slight improvement, Tuesday’s game required Miller to use 60 pitches to battle through just two innings, marked by a 38-pitch first inning that allowed the White Sox to grab an early lead.

Miller’s return to the mound has been closely watched following a 10-week hiatus due to shoulder inflammation. His initial comeback was promising with an 11-strikeout performance, but subsequent appearances have been less stellar, conceding 15 runs over 14 innings across four starts.

The Dodgers’ bullpen, however, rose to the occasion. Michael Petersen stepped in first, delivering two scoreless innings.

The relief efforts continued with Yohan Ramírez, Anthony Banda, and Blake Treinen, who particularly excelled by earning his longest outing since the 2021 NLCS. Together, they effectively silenced the White Sox’s bats, particularly in clutch moments with runners in scoring positions.

On the offensive front, the Dodgers displayed their typical resilience. Shohei Ohtani initiated the scoring with a solo homer, his seventh in nine games, and later contributed an RBI single that helped reclaim the lead for Los Angeles. Freddie Freeman tied the game with a two-run homer off Chris Flexen, continuing his impressive June performance.

Closeout work from Daniel Hudson and Evan Phillips, pitching back-to-back perfect innings, sealed the Dodgers’ win. Phillips’ effort earned him his 13th save of the season.

As the Dodgers and White Pet Sox prepare to conclude their series Wednesday night, with Gavin Stone and Erick Fedde as the starting pitchers, Los Angeles looks to capitalize on its robust bullpen and offensive might to secure another victory.
