The Dodgers returned to the United States after kicking off the regular season in South Korea with a 1-1 record after splitting the series with the San Diego Padres, and all eyes are on Shohei Ohtani again, this time after a gambling scandal was uncovered.

Shohei Ohtani shows true character with selfless act while nobody was looking

Ohtani’s former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, is implicated in an illegal gambling case and although there have been several official versions of the issue, the problem here is that the player may also be implicated after his name appears on several money transfers to a bookmaker.

Ohtani is expected to speak to the media on Monday, but for now, his manager Dave Roberts spoke to reporters about the issue that the Japanese player is going through, saying that it is ‘good’ for Shohei to speak and show his face.

I think it’s good. I think it’s the right thing to do. I’m happy he’s going to speak to what he knows and give his thoughts on the whole situation. I think it will give us all a little bit more clarity.

The two versions of the story

The first version given by Ippei Mizuhara to ESPN’s Trisha Thompson mentions that Shohei Ohtani settled his debt to an illegal bookie, which amounted to $4.5 million; stressing that the player was not involved in his activities at all.

However, the version changed before the interview was published, with Ohtani’s lawyers now saying that the player knew nothing of Mizuhara’s activities and that he was ‘the victim of a massive theft’ from his bank accounts, and that the first version exposed by the performer was not true.
