The recently released documentary by star David Beckham received special attention from the media and fans. Here, the former British player revealed a few things that had never been shared before. One of them involves being banned by former coach Sir Alex from dating his wife Victoria.
Beckham met Victoria in 1997, when he was still a young player on the MU staff. Victoria is one year older than her boyfriend, who was famous at the time in the Spice Girls group. Initially, the couple kept their relationship a secret, but after going public, their love story became a hot topic in the media. The two got engaged in 1998 before getting married a year later.
Beckham and Victoria have known each other since 1997. The couple got married and had their first child in 1999.
However, Sir Alex is said to not like this at all. He wanted his student to marry a normal girl and focus entirely on football.
“At that time, I didn’t want anything to hinder my football career, but I knew at some point I had to retire. I wanted to have a career after I stopped playing football. My coach didn’t care at all. “He just wants me to be the best player I can be and marry a normal girl, not a star,” Beckham shared in the documentary.
Ignoring the discomfort and prohibition from Sir Alex, Beckham still decided to stick with Victoria. The relationship between Beckham and his teacher also began to crumble. “The fact that Beckham was dating Victoria made the coach angry. He thought this affected Beckham’s football career,” said Paul Scholes – Beckham’s former teammate.
Beckham was once a favorite student of coach Sir Alex. However, their relationship later broke down, leading to Beckham having to leave MU in 2003
Beckham does not think that being famous affects his football playing, but coach Sir Alex thinks the opposite. “He has changed. I don’t want him to receive media attention and become an entertainment star. This makes it difficult for Beckham to keep his feet on the ground.”
Beckham’s career may not be perfect without big titles like the World Cup, Euro or C1 Cup. However, the former British football player has a perfect life with his wife Victoria. The two are still closely linked after more than 2 decades and have 4 children together.
