Could Jason Kelce’s Retirement Be the Eagles’ Biggest Obstacle to Winning the Super Bowl?

It’s no secret that the demise of the Philadelphia Eagles last season has impacted the organization and fans alike. After starting the season 10-1, the Eagles experienced a collapse that saw them lose five of their last six games, and the NFC East title by a game to the hated Dallas Cowboys.

Six out of seven if you include the 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs.  The core is still in place, and the Eagles are still expected to be contenders in the NFC this season.

kELCEBleacher Report listed one roster flaw for all the contenders in the NFL that could derail their season and their Super Bowl hopes.

They pointed out that with the retirement of Jason Kelce, one of the best centers in the history of the NFL, that the Eagles offensive line will struggle in the run game and in short yardage in particular.

In recent years, it didn’t matter if it was 3rd and 1, or 4th and 1, you knew what was coming from the Eagles offense. The infamous “Tush Push,” with Kelce anchoring the middle of the offensive line, was almost an automatic conversion.

With Kelce’s retirement, there will be a lot of shifting along the offensive line. Bleacher Report mentioned that, “The Eagles offense could have a rocky transition without Kelce at the pivot.”

The middle of the Eagles offensive line is no longer a strength and Hurts could face more pressure than he’s used to. Hurts and his offensive teammates are also learning a brand-new offense under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

There are a lot of big questions surrounding the Eagles this offseason. Just add this offensive line to the pile
