“Bring out the damn brooms” – Yankees sweeping Astros 4-0 triggers WILD reactions from MLB fans

This marks the first time the New York Yankees have started a campaign 4-0 since the 2003 season

After having a poor season last time out, the pressure was on the New York Yankees to start the 2024 campaign in a strong fashion. They have gone and done just that as they swept their rivals, Houston Astros 4-0 in their own backyard.

In the past few seasons, the Astros had been the dominant force and had the number against the Yankees. However, this season so far, the two-time World Series winner are yet to replicate any of that performances.

One stand-out performer for the Yankees so far has been Juan Soto. Since his trade from the Padres was announced, the expectations were high on his shoulders to deliver.

The 25-time-old in his Yankee debut stole the show with an impressive game-saving throw in the ninth inning. In the third game of the season, he hammered his home run for the team.

During the game on Sunday, he once again became the main difference between the two teams. With the scores tied at 3-3 in the top of the ninth, the Yankees were down to their final out.

However, Soto was able to come up clutch. He would patiently battle it out against pitcher Josh Hader before driving in a run through Gleyber Torres to give his team a 4-3 lead. The Yankees would go on to close out the game with some impressive defensive plays. This also marked the first time since 2003 that they had opened a campaign with a 4-0 record.

Fans on social media have been buzzing with the performances of the New York Yankees and their new left fielder Juan Soto this season. Since his arrival, he has taken over as the star player of the team and has been leading the side while captain Aaron Judge continues to struggles at the plate.

The Yankees will now turn their attention towards the next series and go up against the reigning National League champions, the Arizona Diamondbacks. Their opponents have themselves started the season strong and have a 3-1 record. The Astros on the other hand will be hoping to open their account on Monday when they take on the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game series.
