The Oakland Athletics will be on the move after the 2024 MLB season, which will be their 57th therein.

The team made an announcement this Thursday in which they’ve revealed that they will be moving to a minor-league stadium in Sacramento for 2025-27 and have the option of remaining an additional year.

The A’s will be playing their home games at Sutter Health Park, the home of the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, with the two teams set to share the venue.

The River Cats, which the Sacramento Kings own, will continue to play in the 14,000-seat park when the A’s are on the road.

While the A’s are hoping to complete their move to Las Vegas before the 2028 season, they have set up the option of a fourth year in Sacramento in case there are delays.

We look forward to making Sutter Health Park our home through our move to Las Vegas,” owner John Fisher said in a release, per The Athletic. “We extend our appreciation to the Kings and the City of West Sacramento for hosting the A’s while we work to complete our new ballpark in Las Vegas.

The Oakland Athletic Are Expected To Retain A Significant Portion Of Their TV Rights Fees

The Oakland Athletics did not discuss how the move might affect their TV rights fees. However, the expectation before the announcement was that the team would retain most of the estimated $70 million they are owed if they were to move to Sacramento.

The A’s were negotiating with both Sacramento and Oakland for accommodation as the lease on the Coliseum expires at the end of the current season. A source close to the discussions revealed Oakland made a final offer to the team to remain in the city for the 2025-27 period that would include a $60 million lease extension fee, a lot less than the previous offer of $97 million.

The A’s had also asked the MLB for an exclusive, one-year window to find an owner for an expansion team.
