In a moment to forget, Los Angeles Angels star Jo Adell accidentally over ran the second base which saw him getting tagged out. While it was an honest mistake from him, his coach Ron Washington was not pleased with it and called him out after the game.

The incident took place on Wednesday when the Los Angeles Angels took on the Tampa Bay Rays. With the team down by two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Adell decided to steal a base to get into a good scoring position.

Though he was successful in stealing the base, the 25-year-old ended up overrunning the base and got tagged out by Jose Cabellero instead. This left his coach fuming as the Angels already had two outs in the inning.

Ron Washington would later claim that it did not look good for the team was “embarrassing to all” of them.

It’s obvious he overran the bag. We down 4-2 right there in the eighth inning, if you’re going to decide to get that bag you gotta get the bag. I don’t care what kind of jump you got, you got to get that bag simply because of the situation of the game. It is a teaching moment. Hopefully, that will never happen again, because when you actually look at it it was embarrassing to all of us.

Ron Washington blasts umpire Doug Eddings for his calls in game against Rays

While Jo Adell’s mistake had already dampened the mood of Ron Washington, the coach was left seething in anger with the calls from umpire Doug Eddings. After the game, the 71-year-old coach would blast the official for his work behind the home plate.

Washington went off on Eddings for his calls in the bottom of the ninth inning. A high ball that looked to be missing the strike zone from Pete Fairbanks was labeled as a strike which resulted in Matt Thaiss getting struck out.

Another controversial call from Eddings saw Mickey Moniak being left stranded in the batter’s box. As per reports from Sam Blum of The Athletic, the Angels coach would say that he thought the umpire had some flight that he was missing.

I do think in that ninth inning, he must have had a flight that he was missing, because that’s exactly the way he called the game. He called that game like he had somewhere to go. Didn’t take into account that we fighting to try to win a game. I thought he had somewhere to go ’cause that was ridiculous.

Whether any action will be taken against Washington for this remarks now remains to be seen. Speaking on the Angels, they ended up losing the game 4-2 and lost the series to the Rays. This saw them slip from the top of the AL West division to second with a 6-6 record.
