The former San Francisco Giants outfielder is one of the most polarizing figures in baseball. He is the player with the most home runs in the history of the game with 762. Apart from this feat, he is a 14-time All-Star and a 7-time National League MVP.
However, this accomplishments were unable to help Bonds make it into the MLB Hall of Fame. A major reason for this has been his alleged usage of Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs). He also was reported to have a fiery attitude towards the media, which made him one of the controversial figures of the game.
Despite this, the league on Sunday picked him. In a lengthy post on their official X account, the league hailed the 56-year-old for this impressive feats and honored him. Take a look at the post below:
Fan reactions to MLB posting about Barry Bonds
Barry Bonds was a household name in the league during the turn of the century. His extraordinary hitting ability made him one of the most feared hitters of the game. Things though turned sour for him when he was alleged to use PEDs. This put a huge mark on his career as he failed to manage to receive enough votes to reach Cooperstown in his ten attempts.
The MLB has now paid their tributes to him by celebrating him during the Black History Month. This is something that has not sat down well with the fans as many believed the league should either post about him frequently or not post at all if they feel he is not worthy to be Hall of Famer.

Some would also accuse the league for using his stats to gather attention of the fans. One fan called this move “An absolute disgrace“.
Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, check out what the fans had to say about this on X:
Recently MLB great Gary Sheffield blasted the Hall of Fame process and called it a “flawed“. This came after he fell off the ballot in his final eligible year. Similarly to Bonds, the former New York Yankees star was accused of using PEDs during this career.
Bonds’ last hope to reach Cooperstown now lies in the hands of the Contemporary Baseball Era committee. His chance to get into the exclusive club will rely on the votes of this committee in 2026.
