Verdugo on chain restriction: It’s been hard

While the Yankees’ infamous facial hair policy has long been a topic of discussion, it appears that the organization is now extending its regulations to jewelry, specifically chains worn by players.

Verdugo, who recently joined the Yankees after being traded from the Boston Red Sox, has been accustomed to sporting multiple chains during games.

However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has decreed that Verdugo is permitted only one chain around his neck per game.

“It’s kind of been hard, man,”Verdugo confessed to the Associated Press. “Because usually I’m used to wearing like three or four.”

Despite the adjustment, Verdugo has complied with the new directive, adhering to the single-chain rule during the opening series against the Houston Astros.

This contrasts sharply with his previous habit of packing at least six chains per road trip.

Among his collection, one chain holds special significance for Verdugo.

A custom piece designed for his mother, who battled breast cancer, features breast cancer ribbons with hearts connecting them.

Verdugo plans to gift this cherished chain to his mother upon the completion of her treatment, as she is now cancer-free.

Verdugo hits crucial two-run bomb against Arizona

In a notable on-field performance, Verdugo showcased his prowess during Wednesday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Despite a slow start at the plate, Verdugo delivered a pivotal moment in the 10th inning, smashing a two-run home run to propel the Yankees to a 6-5 victory.

“Alex Verdugo. Alexander the Great,” exclaimed the Yankees’ announcer, John Sterling, as the ball sailed over the right-field fence.

Reflecting on his clutch performance, Verdugo expressed satisfaction with his contribution to the team and relished the camaraderie among his teammates.

As Verdugo enters a contract year with the Yankees, his performance on the field remains under scrutiny.

With expectations high for the upcoming season, both fans and management will be closely monitoring his contributions to the team.
