DODGERS TRADE: Former All-Star Opts Out of Dodgers Minor League Contract, Becomes Free Agent

Left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz has reportedly exercised the opt-out of his minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers becoming a free agent, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Pomeranz, a former All-Star with the San Diego Padres, signed with the Dodgers on March 29 and was assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

He appeared in five games and allowed six earned runs on seven hits across five innings. He struck out seven batters and issued one walk.

The 35-year-old was with the Los Angeles Angels on a minor league deal in spring training but was released before Opening Day. He made nine Cactus League appearances and allowed five earned runs across eight innings of work for a 5.63 ERA.

Pomeranz hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2021 with the Padres when he had a 1.75 ERA in 27 appearances before a torn flexor tendon required season-ending surgery. He missed all of 2022 and then underwent surgery again in 2023, which then-Padres manager Bob Melvin called a “cleanup procedure.”

He was selected fifth overall in the 2010 draft by the Colorado Rockies and has spent time with the Rockies, Oakland Athletics, Padres, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Milwaukee Brewers at the big league level.

Ezoic
He has a career 3.91 ERA in 289 games (140 starts) across his 11 major league seasons and a 2.42 ERA in 160 innings as a reliever.

He’ll now look for his next home in free agency.
