Mahomes was asked about Taylor Swift ahead of the new NFL season.

Taylor Swift was the topic of interest on Thursday night as the new NFL season began and Patrick Mahomes was asked about the singer, and fans have already responded angrily.

Swift made a grand entrance on Thursday night as she arrived at Arrowhead Stadium to watch the Kansas City Chiefs host the Baltimore Ravens, and the footage instantly went viral on social media. It was also displayed on the NBC Sports broadcast before a weather delay pushed back kickoff time by 25 minutes.

Within that delay, NBC ran an interview with Mahomes which first aired earlier this week, but it angered fans who had tuned in expecting the game to start on time. Those who turned on the channel just before the planned kickoff time saw Mahomes being asked questions about Swift.

“We wait 8 months for the NFL and they are asking Mahomes about his tight end celebrity girlfriend? Can we come back to earth please,” one fan wrote on X. “Why are we talking about Taylor Swift in an interview with Mahomes,” one fan began.

“I don’t give a damn about how cool it is that Travis is dating her. Talk football and only football,” they added. “There’s no way I just saw a Patrick Mahomes interview and half of it was just questions about Taylor Swift,” one fan questioned.

The interview was with NBC’s Chris Simms and it went live on Sunday, exactly one week before the first Football Sunday of the new season. With time to kill due to an unexpected storm over Arrowhead, NBC took the opportunity to air the high-profile exclusive.

Mahomes was asked about the opening game of the season, but the clip shown on Thursday was specifically about his thoughts on Swift. The Chiefs quarterback said that Swift has made it more appealing for women to watch football, and even said that Taylor has been drawing up plays

“I think it’s been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football,” Mahomes said of Swift. “I know being a girl dad, how cool it is for me to see like these little girls — these daughters — and how much they love to spend time with their dad, watching football.

“And then meeting Taylor, realizing how genuine and cool she is. I think that’s been special to me because she’s like you said, the most famous person in the world, she could not be (genuine).

“And she’s really interested in football, and she asks a lot of great questions. Started drawing up plays. We might have to put one in.”
