What brought Snoop Dogg to unexpected tears on ‘The Voice’
Snoop Dogg isn’t all cried out.
The beloved rapper was brought to tears on the Nov. 18 knockout round episode of “The Voice” when he wrestled with which singer to advance to the next round.
Mikaela Ayira, Torre Blake and ChrisDeo battled it out in the knockouts, leaving Snoop all choked up as he debated what to do after they had each performed.
“I’m so torn right now because I can’t take all of y’all with me, but I want to,” he told the trio.
“And I’m supposed to be strong right now. I’m supposed to make you all strong. But this is how you’re affecting me. I love each and every one of you. Just like my daughters up there, man, that’s what this feels like. I’m sitting here with my daughters and they’ve gotta go to college and I gotta send two of them off and one gets to stay home.”
In the end, the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper chose Mikaela.
“Mikaela’s voice is big, and I don’t feel like she knows how to use it just yet. I feel like the right song, the right production, she could win this whole competition,” he said while explaining the selection.
Snoop Dogg and crying have become a somewhat common combination since he joined “The Voice” as a coach. Last week, he cried while bonding with contestant Austyns Stancil after Stancil performed Luther Vandross’ “Dance With My Father” as a tribute to his own dad, which Snoop said made him think of his own late mother.
The rapper has also said he nearly cried when he found out the 6-year-old daughter of fellow “Voice” coach Michael Bublé, Vida, listens to his “Affirmations Song” every day.
“Man, that made me almost cry because I made those records for my grandkids and for the kids around the world to have a piece of me that was rated G,” he said Oct. 22 on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
