Jeopardy! fans fuming over ‘completely illegible’ answer accepted in unearthed episode

Jeopardy! fans were left fuming as they unearthed one controversial call by late host Alex Trebek as he accepted a completely illegible answer.

In a newly posted Reddit thread, fans debated one questionable decision made by the former host as he awarded points for an unreadable answer. Sharing a snap of the scribbled answer, which was featured on Jeopardy over a quarter century ago, the creator of the post asked: “Can you read this? Should it have been accepted?”

This ignited a lively debate among fans as many argued that they were able to make out the words “White Christmas” while others thought it was completely indecipherable. And while the contestant didn’t emerge victorious in the round, Alex’s judgement was called into question as many thought no points should’ve been awarded.

Under the post, one user said: “For anyone that can’t read it, it’s apparently White Christmas and it was accepted. But I think that’s only because Alex knew what the correct response was so he already knew what he was looking for. With no context, who could possibly understand this? Ultimately it didn’t matter since he still lost, but I would’ve been upset if I lost to this nonsense.”

Finally Approved: It’s like a ‘Vaccine’ for Memory Issues

New hope for those with brain fog, memory loss, and age-related mental decline.

Another agreed: “If it can’t be read by those watching, it shouldn’t be accepted, right answer or not.” While someone else echoed: “No, that is completely illegible. It should not be accepted.” And a third chimed in: “This is funny as f–k, OP. Is this real? Did you lose to this? I would have made a ridiculous scene to the point of where even if I was awarded the victory, I would not be asked back.”

But on the flip side, many argued that they could immediately make out the answer and thought that it was completely fine that Alex accepted it. One person wrote: “I was able to see the White Christmas so if I was Alex I would’ve probably noticed it and read it and accepted it as their response.” And another agreed: “Elementary teacher here- I could read it.” And someone else said: “I can read the correct response in there, but I also love genealogy and spend a ton of time looking at scribbled census records.”
