Wheel of Fortune contestant loses $13,000 holiday prize due to blunder over song title
The latest episode of the popular game show Wheel of Fortune saw three contestants compete to solve a series of puzzles, including one that tasked them with figuring out a song title
A contestant on Wheel of Fortune came close to winning a holiday package worth more than $13,000 in a recent episode of the show but lost out by making a mistake.
The latest instalment of the popular game show – hosted by Pat Sajak alongside Vanna White – saw contestants Erica, Mark and Antoinette compete against each other.
During the episode, Antoinette was invited to start the Prize Puzzle round, where the three contestants were tasked with solving a puzzle from the category ‘Song Title’.

Antoinette went on to correctly guess nine other letters in the puzzle, including her having purchased three vowels – ‘O,’ ‘E’ and ‘I’ – during her turn spinning the wheel.
She landed on three large prize wedges during her winning streak – including the $1 million wedge, which comes into play later in the show if the contestant gets to the end.
The contestant – who had brought her score up to $13,600 (around £10,800) by this point – was faced with a puzzle board that still had four unsolved spaces within it.

Asked how she wanted to continue, Antoinette – who had already solved the first three words in the song title – explained to the show’s host Pat: “I’d like to buy a vowel”.
She however made a mistake by choosing to guess the letter ‘U,’ which wasn’t part of the song title in question. The only remaining vowel in the puzzle was actually an ‘A’.
The audience were heard sighing over the error made by Antoinette, who had been just three letters away from solving the puzzle and winning the holiday package.

After she expressed disappointment, play moved over to Erica who correctly guessed it was Two Tickets to Paradise – a song by Eddie Money, which was released in 1977.
Erica won $5,000 in cash (around £4,000) and a holiday to Maui, to stay at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa. The prize was worth $13,200 (around £10,500) in total.
Antoinette didn’t get to keep any of the prize money she had collected during the round nor the million dollar wedge. And she didn’t make it to the final round either.
