Taylor Swift broke her silence

Taylor Swift broke her silence about the planned terrorist attack, which was foiled, at her Vienna show, as she reflected on grief.

The Grammy-award winner expressed her emotions about the European leg of the tour after wrapping up her final show in London on Instagram on Wednesday, August 21. In the caption, she took time to speak out on what happened in Vienna and why she had to cancel the three shows that were planned.

She admitted that cancelling the shows was “devastating” and left her with a “sense of dear and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.”

Taylor was grateful to the authorities and thanked them because “we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Because the three Vienna shows were cancelled, Swifties came together and sang on the street, handed out friendship bracelets and prayed. The superstar was “heartened by the love and unity” she saw.

The singer also wrote that safety was the number one priority and chose not to speak on it sooner because “in cases like this one, “silence” is actually showing restraint. The post read: “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

Taylor explained how her team joined forces with stadium staff and British authorities to make sure her fans were safe . She continued: “I want to thank them for everything they did for us. Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.”

Taylor’s team cancelled the the shows after Austrian authorities intercepted plans for an ISIS-inspired terror attack timed with Taylor’s anticipated performances in Vienna. A 19-year-old Austrian man was the first to be arrested before another suspect was arrested the same day and a further suspected arrested the day after.

Officials briefed NBC News on the incident, and revealed a terrifying plot: it was allegedly a suicide bombing scheme. “During the concert, his goal was to kill himself and many others,” DSN chief Omar Haijawi-Pirchner revealed in a press briefing.
