The Miss America competition returned

Over 50 women from throughout the United States and Puerto Rico are competing for the title of Miss America 2025.

The finals are being held Sunday night in the Walt Disney Theater at the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts in Orlando, Florida. The competition will be held from 7-10 p.m. EST. The finale feature its top 11 semi-finalist: Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Colorado, Oklahoma, Georgia, Minnesota, Tennessee, Ohio and Alabama.

As many tuned in to see who will be crowned Miss America, others believe that the pageant competition is not what it use to be. Many expressed their concerns on X, formerly known as Twitter.

One person wrote: “Miss America used to be a prime time TV event. Now I have to search through YouTube to try to find it.” Another person posted: “Who hired these emcees at #MissAmerica2025?!? It’s painfully awkward watching them. @MissAmerica.” A third person wrote: “It’s time for my annual they destroyed Miss America post. This isn’t directed at the girls; they are all incredible and talented. BUT off the bat this production is awful and honestly cringe [four loud crying face emojis] #MissAmerica2025 #MakeMissAmericaGreatAgain.” A fourth wrote: “The production of the Miss America competition is really not great.”

The competition has changed throughout the years
Miss America made a change in 2019 when it transformed from a “pageant” to a “competition” focused on scholarship, social impact, talent and empowerment — and got rid of the swimsuit portion. Whoever is crowned Miss America 2025 will win the opportunity to travel across the United States as a brand ambassador and will receive a $50,000 tuition scholarship.

The Miss America competition began in 1921 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It has since gained popularity, becoming an annual tradition showcasing talent, intellect and beauty. Miss America has inspired other sister pageants that are now hosted across the world.

Many get Miss America and Miss USA confused. The difference between the two is that the Miss USA is part of MUO, and its winners automatically get the opportunity to represent the United States at the international pageant Miss Universe.
