On Tuesday, Simone Biles made history yet again by winning her record-breaking fifth Olympic gold medal in the gymnastics team final. This also marks her eighth Olympic medal, making her the most decorated American gymnast in history.
A number of notable people were in attendance to witness greatness unfold, including another American Olympic icon, Michael Phelps.
Phelps, who himself has no less than 28 Olympic medals to his name, enjoyed the show as he passionately cheered for Biles throughout the event. Once it was official, the swimming legend congratulated Biles and the rest of the USA Gymnastics women’s team for their historic achievement via an Instagram story.
Prior to the above, Phelps posted an IG story featuring Biles performing during the team final, which contained a simple, yet apt two-emoji caption. Biles caught wind of the shoutout shortly after her record-breaking performance, and it prompted her to repost the story in her own IG account.
While Biles did not have any caption for the repost, the act itself shows her
appreciation for the love shown by the Olympic legend.
