Yesterday, an alleged gang rape of an Australian woman took place right in Paris. Authorities have not disclosed the victim’s name, but it is likely that she is a member of the Australian sports delegation competing at the Paris Olympics 2024.
According to eyewitnesses, while dining at a local restaurant on Boulevard de Clichy, they encountered a woman who appeared “disoriented” and asked for help. “Her clothes were disheveled, her hair was messy, and she was in psychological shock,” one person recounted to Le Parisien.
Immediately, police and medical personnel arrived at the scene. The woman is 25 years old and later contacted the Australian sports team.
Paris Prosecutor’s Office admitted that this is likely a case of “gang rape.” It occurred between Saturday and Sunday, and officials are investigating.
Strath Gordon, communications director for the Australian sports delegation, stated that Australian athletes in Paris have been made aware of this attack. The Australian team is seeking ways to protect its athletes.
“They have been advised not to wear the team’s uniform in public places,” Gordon said. “This is surprising because we have not received any threats since landing in Paris. Right now, we are focusing on preparing for the Olympics.”
The news has shocked the Paris Olympics 2024, which is set to begin this evening (July 24). The Washington Post wrote: “Tony Estanguet, chairman of the Paris 2024 Organizing Committee, promised that the French capital would be the ‘safest place in the world’ when the Olympics open. However, there have been security concerns in France, where officials are struggling to maintain balance.”
