‘These are real tears!’: Gwen Stefani is overcome with emotion after being surprised by a message from idol Pauline Black on The One Show
Gwen Stefani choked back tears after she was surprised during an appearance on The One Show on Monday.
The No Doubt singer, 53, was speaking about her musical influences ahead of her Hyde Park concerts in London this weekend.
During the chat the hitmaker told hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas about her idol Pauline Black of Ska band The Selecter, who had influenced her musical career.
Gwen was then over come with emotion when she was shown a video message from the 69-year-old British singer.
In the clip, Pauline said: ‘I’m absolutely thrilled that I’ve influenced you and your music. Sending you lots of love my dear.’

Gwen breaking down in tears said: ‘I’m crying right now, zoom in now because these are real tears. I can’t believe that. That’s incredible.’
‘She was my idol when I was like 13 and she just talked to me!’.
Pauline came to prominence in the late 1970s as the lead singer of band the Selecter, which released four singles that entered the Top 40 charts.
Describing her talents Rolling Stone said: ‘Hands down, Pauline Black possessed the best voice that ever graced a 2-Tone release’.
‘Blessed with a bewitching soprano and dramatic panache, Black’s voice reached plateaus that made every other musical detail sound like part of a backdrop painted just to set the stage for her entrance.’
Elsewhere during the interview Gwen discussed her marriage to fellow superstar Blake Shelton, 47.
She gushed how the country singer was the ‘best thing that ever happened’ to her and described him as her ‘best friend’.
Gwen then explained how she is from California and Blake from Oklahoma and tried to emphasis how they are ‘two different worlds’.

But despite this, she revealed the pair have ‘so much in common’ and also have a joint love of gardening.
It comes after Gwen Stefani shared photos and video from their life with Blake on Sunday writing, ‘happy bday and fathers day, <3 i love u more than anything gx.’
Blake is a doting stepfather to the Hollaback Girl singer’s three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 14, and Apollo, nine, whom she shares with singer Gavin Rossdale, 57.
Gwen also shared an old photo of herself and sister, Jill with their dad, Dennis, writing, ‘Happy Father’s Day dad I love u!! Gx.’

Just over a week ago, Stefani and Shelton were seen making their way onto a private plane, making their way to his sprawling Ten Point Ranch in rural Oklahoma.
And then, later that same day Stefani began posting photos and videos of themselves enjoying the great outdoors in and around his property that a 2,150 square foot house with four bedrooms situated on more than 1,300 acres in Tishomingo.
The couple have been able to share more time together in recents weeks once Shelton wrapped up his 23 season run on The Voice last month.

Wedding bells: Stefani and Shelton went public with their romance in November 2015 after meeting on The Voice, eventually tieing-the-knot at a chapel on Shelton’s ranch in July 2021
The couple can often be found at the Oklahoma ranch whenever they get breaks in their hectic Hollywood lives.
Stefani, who’s confessed to taking to the country life since she and Shelton became an item, has even taken to some of the country fashions at times.
According to Wide Open Country, the ranch is also just a one-hour drive from Shelton’s set of lake houses on Lake Texoma, and is just about 40 miles from his hometown of Ada, Oklahoma
Stefani and Shelton went public with their romance in November 2015 after meeting on The Voice.
They eventually decided to tie-the-knot at a chapel on Shelton’s ranch in July 2021, which actually had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
