‘I can’t even speak!’ Gwen Stefani is almost lost for words as her contestant Ryan Sill is saved by viewers on The Voice

She may be a newbie to the programme but Gwen Stefani is becoming something of a success story on The Voice.

Lorded for her engaging banter and sizzling performances,  the 45-year-old singer had another win on Tuesday – her contestant Ryan Sill was saved by the public.

While Gwen was celebrating with Ryan, a preppy college student from Virginia, Pharrell Williams and Blake Shelton were commiserating – both lost one of their team members.

That left the country star and Happy singer with two students each, while Gwen and Adam Levine are still riding three.

Ryan, 20, was in the bottom three with Sugar Joans, a Californian who has been scratching a living in a cover band, and 18-year-old Nashville sweetheart Jessie Pitts.

Each were given a last ditch chance to avoid ejection with one performance.

Ryan Sill sounded almost feminine with his haunting ‘song for survival’ – More Than Words by 1980s rock band Extreme.

‘This is so intense, I adore you…you keep on getting better all the time,’ said Gwen, calling the youngster ‘incredibly talented’.

‘I can’t even speak, it’s too intense, it’s too much,’ babbled the Sweet Escape singer who looked stunning in a high-necked black and silver gown.

Jessie’s swan song was Sara Bareilles’s Gravity.

‘I’ve never had the opportunity to work with somebody as sweet as Jessie,’ said Blake.

‘This kid is the sweetest person ever,’ he added as the teen began to well up.‘You light up the room when you walk into it,’ he added.

‘Even if this ends for you today…you and I are going to be friends for a long time,’ he assured her.

Purple-haired Sugar Joans went with Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) for her final performance.

‘That was amazing Sugar, you know how I feel about you…there is so much texture to your voice,’ said Pharrell, 41, who was wearing an embroidered bomber jacket and one of his trademark hats in a fawn colour.

‘There’s to much deep ambition inside you, to change this world just by your voice and we are going to do that in the studio,’ he gushed emotionally.

The final ten contestants will go on to next week.

Gwen kicked off the night by singing The Tide is High in hot-pants and ankle boots with her three admiring protégées.

Described by Blake as ‘the best top twelve ever’ the final contestants were then lined up on the chopping block to face the eliminations.

The first artist to be saved by the public vote was Team Adam’s tattooed New Jersey resident Matt McAndrew.

‘I couldn’t be more confident with my team,’ said Adam, 35, who is the lead singer of the Maroon 5 pop band.

Next on the secure list was Gwen’s Jamaican powerhouse Anita Antoinette – who brought the house down with Redemption Song last night.

America also looked kindly on Pharrell’s brunette cutie DaNica Shirey and Blake’s Nashville daddy crooner Craig Wayne Boyd.
