Orioles Smash Into Record Books With Historic Home Run Month

In a stunning display of power at the plate, the Baltimore Orioles have etched their name into Major League Baseball’s record books by belting at least 60 home runs in June, achieving this milestone in a commanding win over the Texas Rangers.

Entering Saturday night’s clash with 58 homers for the month, the Orioles wasted no time in surging past the historic threshold. Anthony Santander launched the team’s 59th home run of June with a solo blast in the second inning, leveling the score against Rangers pitcher Michael Lorenzen. The memorable moment was then capped by Heston Kjerstad, who, in the fifth inning, delivered his first major league grand slam, notching the Orioles’ 60th home run of the month in dramatic style.

The Orioles’ twitter shared the excitement, celebrating the milestone hit with fans online: “The @Orioles’ 60th homer of June is a SLAM!”

Heston Kjerstad, 25, the second overall pick of the 2020 draft, made his striking entry earlier in the week and has quickly made his mark with two home runs, including Friday night’s two-run homer before his grand achievement on Saturday.

With this unforgettable June, the Orioles now join the 2023 Atlanta Braves, who hit 61 homers in June, and the 2019 New York Yankees, who set an August record with 74 homers, as the only teams in MLB history to surpass the 60-home run mark in a single month. The 2023 Braves team tied the 2019 Minnesota Twins for the most season home runs (307), a record closely trailed by the 2019 Yankees with 306 homers.

At this pace, hitting 139 home runs through their first 83 games, the Orioles are tracking toward a 271-home run season. This power surge has contributed significantly to Baltimore’s 52-30 record, currently edging out the New York Yankees for the top spot in the American League East, especially after the Yankees’ recent loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Orioles look to continue their home run spree and conclude their series against the Rangers with the finale of what has been a historic month-long contest at the ballpark on Sunday.
